This is our spam / virus filter update for customers on the mx1 / mx2.tnpw.net filtering cluster. The information is brought to you by our vendor, SpamExperts.

What's new this week:

Improved Microsoft Outlook / Exchange Compatibility

Unfortunately, some mail systems, most notability Microsoft Outlook and Exchange, do not completely follow the email standards in some areas on certain versions. In this week’s update, we have made two changes to work around such issues with Exchange. The first is that the IMAP quarantine system will now work properly with Microsoft Outlook on versions 2013 and above, so users are able to add messages to the “Release”, “Non-Spam”, and “Spam” folders, just as users of other mail clients are. The second is that the “catch all” check in the web interface, which checks to see whether the destination will accept mail to any address, or only explicitly configured ones, will now detect when Exchange is not using a “catch all” configuration.

Admin Level Archiving Status

Users of the archiving product now have a new “Usage” button in the “Archive” section of the web interface. This page will show you, for each of your domains, whether the archiving product is available and active, and you can check how much disk space is being used by each of the domains.

Improved Attachment Restrictions Page

The “attachment restrictions” page in the web interface has had a considerable upgrade in this week’s update.

  • We’ve reorganised the “blocked extensions” section, so that it’s easier to work with
  • The option to block potentially unwanted attachments (such as peer-to-peer clients, remote access applications, runtime-packers or spying tools) is now available
  • The option that was previously named "Block dangerous attachments” is now called "Block attachments that contain hidden executables”, to more clearly reflect what it does
  • The option to block messages that contain many defects is now available
  • The option to scan files that are linked to in messages is now available
