This is our spam / virus filter update for customers on the mx1 / mx2.tnpw.net filtering cluster. The information is brought to you by our vendor, SpamExperts.

What's new this week:

SSO against your LDAP server:

With this update, we’ve added the ability to let your email users log in to the web interface using their credentials in your own internal system, by authenticating against your LDAP server.  For example, you might have an Active Directory server (e.g. with your Exchange server), which can be queried via LDAP.  This means that your users no longer need to have a separate password for the web interface, and just use their normal internal credentials.

To set this up, go to the normal "manage email users" page in the web interface, for the domain that you want to configure, and you’ll see a new "LDAP authentication" section at the top of the page. Simply enter the address of your LDAP domain controller (e.g. hostname of your Active Directory server) here, and you’re all set.

From then on, when an email user at that domain attempts to log in to the web interface, we’ll check the username & password with the directory service via LDAP. The first time any user logs in, a web interface user will automatically be created for them. You can also flag users as inactive as normal, if you want to prevent some of your local users from logging in to the web interface.

2FA is still functional (and we recommend that it’s always used) with these accounts, but password changes and recovery is not (since the password needs to be managed in your own internal directory).

Archive Indexing Options:

The archiving product allows searching within not just the text content in emails, but also the message headers, text found in images attached to messages, and text in PDF and Microsoft Word attachments. You’re now able to disable (and re-enable) indexing of each type of content via the archive “Settings” page for each domain. Indexing some content (particularly images and documents from very old versions of Microsoft Word) uses significant resources, so if you’re never making use of that functionality, then you can improve the efficiency by disabling it.

Improved Admin Page:

The “Manage Admins” page in the web interface will now show admins and their sub-admins (and their sub-admins, and so on). This means that a super-admin will now see a list of all admins in the cluster. Information about which admin a sub-admin belongs to is displayed in small text underneath the username. Searching on this page will now also find any sub-admins that match the search string, as well as top-level admins. You’re still able to see the sub-admins of a particular admin by selecting “Show sub-admins for this user” from the action menu, but you’ll now switch into a filtered view where you can then further search within those sub-admins.
